Excerpt and final scene from Gettysburg The Boys in Blue and Gray. Years after the battle of Gettysburg commander of the 20th Maine, Joshua Chamberlain, received a letter from a soldier in the 15th Alabama Regiment. This soldier had the Colonel clearly in his sights and twice did not take the shot. This letter had a great impact on Chamberlain and he told this story often. • A small hero from an unexpected place. A man doesn't know why sometimes, but he doesn't question it either. We all have our moments of judgement.

  • When I was in Gettysburg a couple days ago, I actually laid down on he rock that you see behind his shoulder at 0:18 and stared out at the battlefield. Kinda creepy to see it on a movie...

  • Proof that the 15th Alabama was weak : )

  • As a descendant of Joshua Chamberlain i think he was one of if not the best officer and leader an enlisted man could follow with honor and pride

  • Man, there are as many people here claiming to be descendants of Chamberlain as there are people claiming to have been in Yankee Stadium in 1961 when Roger Maris hit his 61st home run hahahaha. The funny thing, though, is that all the people here claiming to be Chamberlain's relative can't spell, and yet Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was an intellectual scholar who spoke and wrote 9 languages mostly fluently. His succeeding generations have really let him down ROFL

  • @mptrunner youre assuming too much. in the heat of battle incredible things can happen for better or worse. and youd be surprized who would stand up and take command in the heat of battle to avoid disaster. thats what makes men heros even if they dont think they are heros out of modesty. at picketts charge capt cushing 4th wis batt. d was killed all officers were wounded the first seargent took command of the battery won the medal of honor. just one example of what could happen.

  • @LordHannigan i believe it was 6-7 times.

  • There were many great leaders of men in the Civil War between the States, Joshua L. Chamberlain followed his orders to not surrender that position. He did not fail on that, because if he had,the battle and the war would have been lost.

  • wounded 6 times in the war

  • I was named after Chamberlain!

  • @mptrunner He was wounded many times.
