  • @DickWhittington1000 At last someone on utube who knows what hes on about., regarding modern jazz.Yeah I studied Gordons playing in the past along with other greats. In Long Tall you can most probably hear the development the most from Prez to himself. It is not as apparent in others,as much like bird.Of course Getz is another obvious one but still not as close as DG .If you listen to very early recordings of DG

you could mistake it for Prez first listen.

    DG great,at growing style naturally

  • Man, you can't beat Dexter, unless it's Charlie Parker (who sometimes played TS). Gordon's playing is closer to Lester Youngs, & takes it where "The Prez." would have if he'd left the bottle alone. Dexter inherited the crown from Young as you can tell by the similarities in style. Bird was in a league all his own where there have been many imitators ( like Sonny Stitt ,early John Coltrane, & Phil Woods). "Tanya" & "Diggin' for Diz" are my favorites by Dexter Gordon.
