I'll be very supprised if 911 didn't sow the seeds for this global recession. Just today I read that U.S. aid for Afganistan alone excluding the cost of combat operations progressively went from $982 million in 2003 to $9.3 billion in 2008. Allied countries are suffering both from helping the U.S in their war effort and lack of demand for local goods and services. Much of these expenses would normally go toward paying people's wages.
