In 'Death of a Shaman', a young mien woman from Sacramento, Fahm Saeyang responds to her father's unsettled life and death by taking a reverse journey to examine the heartbreaking path he took from respectability to hopelessness-and from Southeast Asia to America-in a heartfelt personal mission to understand his tragic story.

This dual journey helps 'Death of a Shaman' examine with painful honesty how Fahm's Mien immigrant family suffered through a 20 year ordeal of poverty, racism, religions, drugs, jail, and the murder of a family member.

It is a chronicle of a darker side of the pursuit of the American dream that affected many of the 40,000 Mien who came from a primitive life in the mountains of Southeast Asia to America. 'Death of a Shaman' is also a moving account of Fahm's need to understand her father's pain, and a desire to figure out what will placate his troubled spirit and her own.

I don't understand how arguements like these start from videos like this. She's trying to explain a story and you guys say stuff like this. I'm hmong and I have lots of mien friends. Our culture, our beliefs, and our clothing are similar so my Mien buddies are like brothers and sisters to me.

Why not a discussion of how we can unite to make life better for both ethnicities who have been subjected to oppression? Why is it important who is smarter and who is not? Someone is smarter and someone is less in every and any race. Teach tolerance in all forms as we learn to become a better person in spite of our name or ethnicity...

@Robertamissoniluv Agreed! America pretends to be a melting pot and realizing we must be a salad bowl and learn tolerance....America continues to be least tolerant and has caused for the demolition of many cultures...I almost want to say all cultures that have arrived upon it's shore.
