This group doesn't have any of the original members. Bob Shane is the only one of the original group still living, but no longer performs. Dave Guard died some years back, John Stewart (who replaced Guard in about 1962) and Nick Reynolds both died in 2009. In the late 50s and early 60s there was no one better.
George Grove can easily be qualified as an "original" member of the K3. And yes, the original guys - from two "original" trios- are no longer with us, or able to participate (R.I.P. Dave, John, and Nick; All deeply loved and missed), Bob Shane has brought together two men that, with George< are able to put over a show very much like the original guys. Thank you, Bobby! I'm certain the others are looking down from heaven and loving every minute of it.
Some of the commenters on this and other Kingston Trio postings have mentioned that this isn't the original group. Unfortunately 3 of the 4 men most associated with the Trio are dead and from what I've read Bob Shane's health no longer allows him to travel. BUT George Grove has been a member of the group for a LONG time, the other two current members are folk music veterans, and I think that Bob Shane still has controlling rights to the group. They're great musicians and do the name proud.
I'm not really a fan of any of the latest incarnation of any folk group (particularly since none of the original members are in them usually) but I have to admit that these are some incredible vocalists.
@bamm427 No, Bob Shane owns the name Kingston Trio outright. These guys are his employees. He can hire 'em; he can fire 'em.

Did these guys buy the name or something? I wonder if I can buy the Beatles? Might get a few bucks on the side.......

Glad to hear Bob Shane in fine voice. what are the other 2 doing? I think Guard is now dead. Who wrote the harmony for them? It's great.

They were one of my favorites as a youngster. This is pretty good but it's a shame the regular crew isn't around.
