I was as suprised as you about the "salt water", but later into the video he explains that he means deep water NEAR the sea that MAY contain some salt so he was greatly exagerating at first.

how nice, it a con-job for poor african countries! hydroponics have high production rates, but also high production costs, especially where skilled labor is expensive. also, no, you cant actually use salt water.
