I am surprised on his passing RIP. I used to see the Rogers Bros in the 60's back in EDM. They were extremely popular at the time with their TV shows. Hank was an excellent guitar player but then changed to steel Frankie played on many recordings of various artists.

I'm glad that people are coming to realize that Frankie Rogers penned this beautiful waltz. May he rest in peace. I will miss him!

I also play this song in our concerts ,and we call it OokPik and say it is an Alaskan folk song. But anyways, I still love the song and the harmonies.

I was saddened to learn that the legend Frankie Rodgers passed away last week, I consider myself one of the 'lucky ones' to meet this gentle and kind man and was honored to play a few gigs with him over the recent years. I posted two videos of 'Frankie and Friends' performing at a music festival in Courtney BC.

One Source, ibiblio dot org says - a composition of Mission, British Columbia, fiddler Frankie Rodgers, who has published it in a tunebook of his compositions. British Columbia fiddlers know the tunebook and the source well. It was also first recorded on his (c. 1960's) LP Maple Sugar, Fiddle Favorites by Canada's Old Time Fiddle King Frankie Rodgers of the Rodgers Brothers Band (Point P-250). Sheet music of Ookpik Waltz was published with a 1965 copyright to Rodgers.

Thanks for the interesting discussions. It really is called Ookpic Waltz. Ookpic is Inuktitut word for Snowy Owl.
