Kalarippayatt is a Dravidian martial art practised in Kerala and
contiguous parts of neighboring Tamil Nadu of Southern India. It
incorporates strikes, kicks, grappling, martial dance, and weaponry,
as well as healing techniques.

Legend traces the 3000-year-old art form to Sage Parasurama- the
master of all martial art forms and credited to be the re-claimer of
Kerala from the Arabian Sea. Kalaripayattu originated in ancient South
India. Kung- fu, popularized by the monks of the Shoaling Temple
traces its ancestry to Bodhi Dharma - an Indian Buddhist monk and
Kalaripayattu master.

  • @phoenixaltar fuck mma bullshit; to say such things might actually phase out entire martial cultures. What I'm seeing right now is a form of culture and the deep understanding of its people. MMA is just a sport that is unrefined and sloopy. Also against a fight with no rules, ordinary MMA fighters would have a hard time depending against certain techniques that can maim or kill.

  • india invented martial arts, china helped them evolve and i think japan and china toghether lead martial arts to perfection strating 600-700 years ago

  • we got mma now, so dont bother traditional styles

  • yes, later though. in the begining, kalari was simply not a martial art. this is fact.

anybody who knows the language and sangnam will tell you this.

the tradition is old, but not the martial art.

  • The sangnam litertaure also covered warfare too you know.
