at some point, cell division did not detach cells from each other completely.

We don't observe mountains raising, we can see small changes in growth over our small pathetic life-time but I've never seen a mountain rise out of just a fault line, so obviously mountains don't exist

You may need a refresher course on what true multicellularity is.

Each cell has its own specified function in a multicellular organism. Also the existence of single-celled organisms is necessary for multicellular life to exist.
