On a beautiful autumn morning 71000 heads the first public passenger train of the gala event marking the re-opening of the Leekbrook to Cauldon Low branch by Moorland and City Railways. The train was banked by ex-LMS 8F loco 8624 and this became the lead loco for the return trip. The pair are first seen climbing the 1 in 45 to Bradnop at Four Fields Crossing, then again on the return leg north of Winkhill on the only significant stretch with an adverse gradient back to Leekbrook.

  • I really like the going away shot at around a minute in and the climb north of Winkshill on the return. I will have to get up ther in daylight instead of in the dark behind an 8F!

    Thanks for sharing, Neil.

Yes, Four Fields Crossing is a nice location - no traffic noise, on a curve. I can see since how much better I could have set up my shots on the day. But there is always Friday 19th and Weds 24th to try again - and the weather is looking set fair for the next few days (that was the kiss of death then!!). But I so wish I'd been on the beerex last weekend - that was amazing.
