Experimenting with the Sea to Summit Folding Cup and Pinnacle Soloist with the Trangia cookset for baking without an oven. This would be a great option for baking while camping, backpacking, bike touring, rving and van dwelling. This video focuses on using this simple set up on the trail and camping to bake Betty Crocker Blueberry Muffin Mix with little fuss or mess. Yum!

This is a 3 Part Video and my first time video taping a gear test and tutorial so I'm interested in receiving uplifting comments and questions:-) I look forward to filming more tests in a No Mess Trail Cooking Series.

This was filmed with a Canon Powershot S5 with articulating viewfinder using a Gorilla Pod.

Thanks for watching!! I appreciate your time and attention in viewing this exploration in alternative baking. Warmly, Laurie

  • Thanks for sharing this vid! After trying several "camping cups" I discovered the Sea to Summit "X" series of bowls, mugs and plates and consider it the best "folding" stuff around. I thus own several X-Mugs and yet never thought to use it like this! I also own a Soloist and a Jetboil that I've steam-baked in before using silicon cupcake molds (wonder if the x-mug would fit in that stove's pot too?) so I can't wait to give your method a try! Again, thanks for the video!

  • @BanjoOz Thanks for the thoughtful comment! I also have a jetboil and hadn't thought about baking in it because of the form factor. If I ever find my silly feet silicone muffin holders I might try it. I really like the x mug though because it holds all of the batter from one small pack of grocery store muffin mix so you can make a size that you can share once it's done if you are so inclined...laughing. It's also soooo fun to pop the foldable mug off the muffin because it lets go with such ease!

  • Great video. I love be able to watch a detailed review of a product i'm interested in buying. Thank you for this video.

  • @Bigl8317 Hey thank you! It was a fun video to make since I really didn't know how it would turn out! Part 3 is my favortie with the revealing!

  • @TheBeebopper The camp 'table' knife works well for small dough quatities (1/2 cup cones), although I did mix it in an enamel cup. This was easier than doing a similar small quantity in a small mixing bowl with either a pallete or a proper dinner knife.

  • @LoveRise In the house I use a stick for stirring when making soups, sauces and custards. I find a spoon is less effective in the main and next to useless for dough, where a small pallette knife is best. Just bought a clip together steel knife fork spoon set and the knife looks about right for mixing a small quantity of dough.

  • Nice idea Beebopper if the betty crocker bag were bigger it's only 6.7 oz and mostly filled with the product I could probably stir with a stick yet there would not be room for cooking and rising and there would be no stability in the bag which would result in a mess and my motto for camp cooking is No Mess Trail baking:-)

I do plan to see if stirring with a stick or spork will work once I add the half of cup of water needed to bake the product. I'm not quite sure if there is enough space.
