HDTVNEWS REVIEW/VIDEO: i
(IMAGES) BRIAN DE PALMA at PRESS CONFERENCE sept4. 2007 --
HDTVNEWS REVIEW: "REDACTED" is A FABULOUS FILM. ONE OF THE BEST FILM THIS YEAR! AT VENICE FILM FESTIVAL A REALLY GREAT WAR FILM (though not the best but still very good and worth seeing!). It's a really interesting them questioning the media in a War, on site and their role. (Cf in the same classic way the role of the journalist in the classic Lawrence of Arabia, though in this movie the media and their role is not the main subject, it style come as a main layer of the subject and story!)... In this Beautiful story we see a very good performance by one of the main characters... Questioning the media reports (news and reportages) and their accuracy and their value as true or not. So to unveil the truth remains very interesting, and how, and is it revealed ? for some reason it has never really been discussed/questionned on the big screen recently...

HDTVNEWS REVIEW:
Brian De Palma took the anger that the current situation in Iraq has created in him and spit it back at audiences in a violent, bloody loogie. THE FILM REDACTED purpose seems to bring a very deep and realistic look at what war can create, using handheld cameras and new media forms to document some of the most atrocious crimes...the war generate is what is brought to us by this very moving film. It clearly gives us an insight on how war can be filmed from insiders and their point of view... and brings us to a main contemporary subject (that started with the Cold war), that is in some ways the role and impact of the media when recording, filming the war... The main character in the film is a student in journalism and that's gives enough information on the subject underlined by the film. teh subject unveil the relations and interactions between war, a real serious matter ( and the lives involved , and lost, etc...) and the media theme, that is how the war ( and the lost ones or the untrue facts) is delivered as in news reports etc... and where the truth lies... as media is all about the truth (and facts) , and what is shown or not shown... and why? and what is behind it the most important is the ETHIC OF THE MEDIA and where it stands ! a real deep subject and interesting Film and message... though made to choc in some ways... (sadly). (we sometimes regret that in his eager to show the reportage - made by the soldier- to be closer and as much as possible , to a personal documentary - as it's made for), it also delivers a film where images are sometimes quite disturbing as in real journalist-reportages, where the camera images are not fix and it can be sometimes making you feel quite uncomfortable... though the film is greatly directed... The controversy about the role of the media in a war and the contrast between truth ( a war that is a reality) , and the documented images (that are shown on a screen !)... and how a message and an ethic is on the go via wires and various devices, and recording etc... and wht or how it is used for (or could be )... is a great subject! ... an interesting thing that has never been treated or so rarely!...
