This is so helpful, thank you for sharing. I wish I'd seen this last night, before i ruined my first sock with a messed up Kitchener attempt. I've often wondered why more knitters don't use a crochet hook for certain tasks...but I'm not that experienced so I've followed their lead. Thanks again!

I wonder also, is this ok for stockinette stitch? I'd rather do this to the back of my "Mythos", rather than grafting with kitchener.

@chilloften it most certainly would work with stocking stitch, the only thing is you will have a little plait of the stitches where the join is. Depending on the item .. and gauge that might look nice, or odd, one consideration might be to work this from the wrong side so that plait ends up inside ... it won't be as seamless as a sewn graft or kitchener .. but it will be more stable and firmer.
