  • It's called "chattering" and many, many cats do it when they see prey that's out of reach. Sometimes if you shine a light/laser on the ceiling they'll do it.

  • My cat does this all the time, but not just to birds, to me as well, if i say "want the ball?" she will wag her tail and do this cackle/chattering thing haha

  • My little Monster does this all the time....he do it with practically anything- fish, bird, bug, fingers, feet- just so long as it is out of reach. Thanks for posting, I miss my kitty so much!
