I often see fellow carpenters apply a bit of wax to the bottom of the router base to create that smooth glide across the wood or whatever work surface.. I have gone to home centres here in Toronto but I dont know what to look for, what type of wax is used - is there a brand?

why are routers dangerous?(aside from the spinning sharp thing) what are things to watch out for?
Seriously, in all my industrial and technical training across numerous trades the basic issue of SAFETY was repeated again and again by all teachers. I do the same when training others. It's the best policy to adopt. The reasons WHY needs to be explained.

@Reproducer100 I believe you're a little harsh. I never felt like I was an idiot when I first used one freehand. I was inexperienced, but not an idiot. That's why these videos are here. All of us that make them are trying to share knowledge.

@madnessdexter In the hands of an idiot the machine can rip your guts out if turned towards the operator and a deep cutting bit exposed beyond the faceplate.
The bit is mounted directly on the shaft of a high speed motor, no reduction gearing. There are heaps of gyroscopic forces especially when starting that motor.
Any power tool that spins fast can get out of hand very fast.
Frankly, these things should only be used in a table until a user is competent enough to use it freehand.

me too!!
Hi, I bought a Black and decker router a few months ago, and TECH SPECS says that it has a 1/4" collet... I bought a 1/4" shank straight bit for it, but it seems that the shank is too small for it, because no matter how much i tighten the collet (with the supplied wrench) it seems to be loose cuz i can take the bit out with my fingers... am I doing something wrong? anny sugestions?

And when you called the 800 number to talk with the B & D Help line, what exactly did they tell you?

You're most welcome. Seriously, when you have an issue with a tool, call the mfr. Who better to answer the question!
