Surfboard strength test: Balsa surfboard vs. polyurethane board

Hardly a scientific method. Strictly speaking, stiffness does not equate strength. In fact some flex can make a board stronger, and even easier to control. Visually the flex seemed the same to me, and under normal loads (person riding a surfboard) a poly board shouldnt break. Under wave against reef or sand, who knows if that strength difference would make a significant difference? What I would look at is; Price, water absorbtion, weight, and aesthetics.

Wow! That's the info I was looking for. By the way, is the hollow wood surfboard as strong as the balsa ones? I mean I've just broke my old polyurethane foam longboard and I'm seriously considering to purchase a wood surfboard but not so sure about how weight it gonna increase and affects performance.
Peace from Brazil.

the hollow ones are not as strong - but it does depend on the constuction technique
