Time was running out for the searchlights that guarded 106 miles of BNSF's Fallbridge Subdivison from Wishram to Vancouver, Washington. The venerable signals were being replaced by new Safetrans type tri-lights. This is North Dalles siding, 12 miles west of Wishram and the last CTC siding to be protect by searchlight before the tri-lights were activated.

  • I know that, in Oregon, there are still a few search lights on the Oregon Trunk and on the line between Eugene and Portland but there are a lot between Sacramento and Eugene that have no evidence of being taken down anytime soon. So....roadtrip!??!??

  • good bye my old friend you will be truly missed

  • I like both types of signals but the GRS are legendary!

  • SDNR and SCAX still have searchlights on the Surfliner Route.

  • Searchlight are rarely being replaced on the BNSF. Union Pacific replaced tons of Searchlights on their routes

  • There's still searchlights on the BNSF in Buckholts

  • Tehachapi is still full of these searchlight signals. I love it.

  • Still some serch lights in use in Kansas on the up, but only 10 miles or so. (3 signals).

  • *oops!* Sad, that they came down, I always loved those...even the ones on the OT and at Moody are gone too now.

  • Sad :(
