On the eve of the court-martial of First Lt. Ehren Watada, the first commissioned officer to publicly refuse deployment to Iraq, Ehren spoke to Truthout's Geoffrey Millard. This inteview took place prior to the Court Martial proceedings that ended in a mistrial. The Army has re-filed charges against him. At the time of this posting no trial date has been set.

  • Why is the U.S. Army dragging their butts on this? Lt. Watada's term of service was supposed to be up in December 2006. Yet as of June 2008 he is still serving on active duty at Fort Lewis. They must love him as a hero for others to emulate.

  • "You must follow your conscience, you must do what is right, no matter the what the consequences." This is the very definition of heroism, and this guy is being court martialed. Truly, the Republican party MUST be on the side of the soldiers.
