  • How's the battery life on your X41?

  • wow, this is the SSD from Kingspec, you can contact with morffin@kingspec.com for more information of kingspec's SSD.

  • I actually got real same spec that you do and it seems like mine doesn't fast like yours. Do you have any tip for me?

  • this is awesome im sold now on simply upgrading the slow 4200rpm HD with a $100 32GB Kingspec SSD from ebay... this old laptop has a great keyboard, and you cant get a netbook this nice for 100 anywhere.... can't wait

  • Thumbs up if you also noticed he is running Windows 7 on Mac Hardware = win

  • Can you please confirm me what model of SSD it will support. I am thinking of buying an IBM X40 from someone. It supports a PATA 1.8 SSD? I tried searching for a PATA 1.8 inch SSD on newegg and there was none! :(

  • x40 is just great, the only thing that makes me mad is the hdd speed and the max ram possible (1,5gb). Changing to ssd drive and reducing the amount of trash that is loaded on startup makes this laptop a cheap&great machine! I use it for notes taking (studies - runs 5 hours even though the battery havent been used much for 5 years!!!), some web surfing and other tasks and definitely willing to change my hdd to ssd!

  • cont..This isn't a gaming laptop..it's business class. It has Intel Extreme 2 IGP in all models and you can get them in nice conditions for under $200 off ebay. The fact it's one of the lightest laptops ever made is the appeal.

Also it has miniPCI for wifi, and there is a daughter chip that can be 56k or 56k+BT.

  • FYI it's chipset supports ATA-100 and lower and it has a 1.8" IDE slot. This means you could put a 120GB 5400RPM 1.8" drive in it. ATA-100 has a max address space of 13xGB and the biggest they make in ATA-100 is 120GB. The 5400RPM are the fastest and most are by Toshiba. SSD is more durable though nice choice(make sure it has wear leveling on the controller).

X40 is one of the lightest laptops every made, seriously. Go for the 1.2Ghz ULV or 1.6Ghz(fastest CPU in this model) LV.

  • Fast. how it's supposed to be.

Was gonna get the i7 quad, sorry dual core £££ priced x201 but i'll probably save the cash and buy this instead.
