When you lift the right leg and your elbow is away from your body, aren't you more susceptible to losing the grip and being swept, triangle, armdrag...?
I'm really disappointed to see a BJJ practitioner show using pressure points to open the guard. I realize that everyone in the world can see this, but that's no excuse to perpetuate such an ineffective method of opening the guard. Opening the guard should be biomechanical, not pain compliance. You should be ashamed.
LOL, this is a very effective method to open the guard, and if pain compliance shouldn't be used in BJJ, how do expect someone to tap? Many techniques in BJJ is based on Opponent's reactions, no ashame in causing someone to react...remember, BJJ is not just a sport.
My point exactly! Pain does not stop someone in a self defense situation, it's too easy to ignore. You need to use biomechanics. Then it's impossible to stop it (unless you're trained to do so). People tap because they don't want to be injured, not because of pain. If pain was effective you could simply apply pressure points to stop an attack.
I respect you opinion, but there are many self-defense techniques from various Martial Arts where pressure points are a vital key to stopping attacks. Remember, not everyone is trained to ignore pain like soldiers. The average person reacts to pain...frequently, I know this because I am a full time cop and use pain compiance in arrest techniques against combative suspects. I appreciate your input and comments, everyone has a right to their opinion.
As a full time police officer you, of all people, should realize the effect that drugs and adrenaline have on pain compliance. They eliminate/mask pain rendering it virtually ineffective. Also, as a police officer you MUST, BY LAW, use the lowest level of force first and move up accordingly. The avg. civilian is not bound by those restrictions. I do respect that you have responded and chosen to post my comments, even though they are not in favor of your method of opening guard.
