  • i think this guy did fantastic job.. i prefer this version to the goju ryu one but like yourself..this is just my opinion! i think ur very rude saying its an abomination, it wasnt performed shabby or sloppy.. the techniques were strong and snappy in all the right places..each style of karate has their own interpretation of katas! constructive criticism is entirely different to just being plain rude!

  • Thanks for saying so. Its obvious that some pathetically narrow minded karate-ka are still out there still prove they exist by expressing their view; that their way is the ONLY way.

Especially the loud Goju purist/extremists, they seem to conveniently not remember that most of "their" kata was handed down by Ryu RyuKo and not developed by the founder of Goju Ryu; Miyagi Chojun.

But it's always nice to correct the ignorant, intolerant and those with false pride.

  • Thats a Go Kan Ryu version. One of my favourite katas! This particular performance is quite correct and precise. Although personally I time it a little differently, that is only interpretation. Very nice kata, much better then mine:)

  • cheers for that! it's one of my favs too... it was my NAS tournament kata for a few years. and on that note, i'm going to go see what you have posted.

  • i can't comment on the timing since i do goju and not GKR but you could straighten your back during the kiai, that one touch will make it better.

    good kata

  • In my opinion this kata is performed fluidly and strong. I enjoy watching sharp performances. has any 1 thought of filming kata outside they're regular dojo or in public to increase the difficulty? My "rendition" of Sepai is outside a metro train staition. lol. see what you think.

    good job kylon 100

  • @tambabashi do u go to GKR? cos actually the class I go to, we often talk about bunkai and explain the moves

  • @mrturner7 thank you

    someone who speaks sense :)

    (u rock)

  • I would love to see your karate now, I've watched this so many times! i'm thinking of doing this in the world cup!

  • Finally some karataka that realise that Go-Kan-ryu is a style in its own and that our kata have been taken from traditional styles to demonstrate the most basic teachniques in traditional and modern self defence. I love the haters from other clubs that say our kata is wrong, when its not! that would be like members of shito ryu clubs having a go at goju ryu, or shoto kai dissing shotokan. this is an awesome sepai. I would keep my back straight on the gedan bari after the sweep and double strike

  • @groovybird2k7 far as i kno, isnt alot of wat is in the GKR kata an old version of JKF Goju-kai kata anyway?

and Kylon100, please dont think for a second i am condoning rudeness or arrogance in any way, i do however think that wat gets alot of goju purists'noses out of joint is more that most Goju organisations(at least those associated with the AKF) have moved with the changes made to the kihon, kata, bunkai, etc however GKR have not

  • Well if they were rude about yours hate to see what they say about mine...great kata mate...

  • what's the hand slap at the end? That's not correct in this kata in 2004

  • well said!!
