This beautifully-shot expose takes you to the heart of the corporate/tribal struggle. Nigerias impoverished oil-producing communities are outraged.

They see few returns from the myriad of oil wells that pollute their villages. We see forests destroyed by disastrous oil spills, whilst Shell provides evidence to suggest many spills are sabotage, in order to gain compensation. But time has run out for the beleaguered multi-national: Ijaw youths issued the Kaiama declaration, demanding Shell leave their land by December. The deadline was ignored and the Ijaw have relaunched a new bout of forced closures and hostage-taking. Shell is powerless to defend itself without calling in the corrupt and vicious army. Wounded youths lie in crude hospitals, victims of the armys defence of the flow stations they fail to seize. Felix Tuodolo, signatory of the Kaiama declaration, says the crisis will continue:We will keep going down to those flow stations. Our blood will flow. He claims the Ijaw remain unarmed, but reports of armed youths training in the bush spell out a bleak future. Shell says it is ready to negotiate, but it may be too little, too late.

Norway, Switzerland are wealthier, healthier & safer than USA and have a greater amount of socialism. Most economies are mixed. This isn't about absolutes or 'sides,' it's about a specific issue.

All other factors being equal, Iran's socialized oil allows her to retain her profits. Nigeria's privatized oil profits are sucked out of the country leaving them to wait in long lines for something their country produces. When it comes to oil, Nigeria could benefit from Iran's model

  • i can barely hear the narrator over this annoying african music.

  • God Bless Haiti

  • that is so wrong. one word JUSTICE, justice needs to be served. justice has no color, no rich or poor. this is not right, that was the natives land first & now its ruined cuz of these wrong oil companies taking advantage of lesser people.

  • Take care.

  • It's gonna be my new home if the US government can't get it's act together... Mass cheap public transportation, extremely environmental, pledges to be independent from oil by 2015, social services that care for their citizens~

Corporate owned media is not the only thing wrong with this country though. I'd say the greatest problems begin with lack of education, and end somewhere twisted with a false sense of pride. Take Care Lance...

  • i can't believe people in the US get their news from beck, o'reilly, and fox. these ignorant racist right wing nut jobs is what is wrong with america. these rednecks only care about derailing obama at the cost of our nation.

what about sweden? i don't know much about them.

  • What ever gave you the idea that I'm an Obama racist? Omg! LOL, really. However, I'm not going to go against the definition, just because republican wing-nuts make the word 'socialism' sound bad. If the US would simply accept/realize that we already have social services in place, and they are highly beneficial to all, then they'd be more accepting of it. All a matter of semantics really.

You're right about our industrialized neighbors, however. Check out Sweden~ <3

  • call it what you like, but i call it universal healthcare for all. medicine should never exclude anyone!! don't miss the big picture when it comes to health and safety for all US citizens. making money and excluding basic health services is very very wrong in a democratic society that all our industrialized neighbors have done right except for the US. i'm glad you agree and not an obama racist, but don't call it socialism like the fox-palin-radical conservatives like to say in order to derail

  • "police, military, fire, and medicine should all be available to all US citizens regardless of their income. these are non-profit and should remain that way because these are basic fundamental rights to every us citizen." = socialism ... Silly! I'm hoping for socialized medicine in the US~long over-due.

  • Socialism in every way sucks big time. watching hugo chavez rape its citizens of property is disgusting. police, military, fire, and medicine should all be available to all US citizens regardless of their income. these are non-profit and should remain that way because these are basic fundamental rights to every us citizen. many industrial countries help 3rd world countries by investing in their natural resources that they would never have the technology to retrieve. it's a symbiotic relationship
