if you leave a thumbs down, have the decency to leave a sensible explanation, other than jealousy

I've been loving and playing this song since the 70's. I've gotten better but I'll never that wonderful syncopation and skill he had. I saw him one time on a park bench in Sproul Plaza, Berkeley. It was during a folk festival. He gave me a sweet smile. I don't even remember what he played. He was totally comfortable, relaxed. BTW I saw Gary Davis on that same bench another year.

I first heard this piece on a finger picking learning LP in the mid-70s. It sounds pretty easy, but I gave up on it after trying for a month to get the first 30 seconds together. It is amazing how the art of fingerpicking comes so natural to people like John. And if you want to learn about humbleness - he's an example. What a loss, even after all these years.

Jaw dropping! The break is one of the most utterly transcendent pieces of music ever recorded. Guitar players live for this. First heard this in the late seventies, and it still makes my heart soar every time.

After being rediscovered mid 60's, Izzy Young of the Folklore Center NYC told John to pick any guitar he wanted in the shop. Out of everything, Martin, Gibson etc. he picked a modest Guild.
