@avesraggiana I guess what I’m saying is rather than having 24 swans or 32 shades all doing their utmost to present a single, unified artistic vision by dancing with impressive unity and cohesion, which is what the Kirov corps is legendary for, what we have instead at ABT are 24 individual dancers who just happen to be dancing the same steps, but really saying with their bodies, “look at ME, look at ME!”.
@mochabubble The kind of stylistic cohesiveness and unison you see at the Kirov or Bolshoi could never be attained at ABT because their dancers come from disparate backgrounds and have not been trained in the same way. Factor that in with our American predisposition to remain fiercely individual, and the result is corps work like you see at ABT. It’s not part of our cultural identity to subsume our individual identity to create one artistic vision that is more than just our individual selves.
@mochabubble i completely agree. I saw ABT in bright stream recently and their corps were horrible I couldn't believe it. whenever they do anything out of their repertoire the corps falls apart, but sleeping beauty I expect to at least be together.
If the corps was more together, it would have been lovely. However, that is a problem i find every single time I watch ABT. I think I'll stick to the Kirov, Bolshoi, etc. Natalia Osipova though, completely shocked me, in a good way of course. It is like when I watched her Giselle and La Bayadere.
Natalia is a REAL sleeping beauty!!!!
Вот кто должен был танцевать на примьере в БОльшом театре!!!
