@PsychoFroop i had this thought too, as the beat is slightly delayed, but still came down on the side of ska as it lacks a certain romanticism, and is still a bit uptempo comparatively. great song regardless of category.

This is ska, it's about Jamaican independence in 1962. I think it even still has some mento going on. He talks about Bustamante and Manley and says "We're independent.." So not rocksteady and certainly not reggae.
