Obama Defends Choice of Pastor

President-elect Barack Obama defended his choice of Pastor Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration. Obama told reporters in Chicago that America needs to 'come together, even when there's disagreement on social issues. (Dec. 18)

The fact is, you just can't make everybody happy. If he would have picked a "pro-gay" pastor, then the "anti-gay" community would have been upset. Let's give everyone a turn, lol!

Let me opt out of this discussion. I sympathize with both canycme and pachomius1000. Obama should never have picked Rick Warren. It is against the concept of free speech which all of us here cherish so much.

pach, I am able and also not going to get into specifics with you. Why? From your first reply to me you took a combative tone unnecessarily. Your aim is to shame someone if their opinion is different from yours on this subject. You have an "all or nothing" mentality. Your immaturity causes you to demonize anyone who doesn't share your level of outrage.

Hi BBSR, I agree that choice was a bad idea. I was in a state of disbelief when I first heard about it.

Eventually I put it in the context of bridging the divide with a large segment of society. Although many people share Warren's views, it doesn't make it right. I stated before those views are outdated. They were never acceptable but they do still exist.

I'm disappointed he is bestowed such an honor, so I reconcile that with the hope more people will revisit those biases and begin to change.

Rick Warren may be popular among many, but his views are an assault on free speech, one that is so dear to all our hearts. Obama should never have picked him.
