Seaon Shin, 19, is the founder of Global Youth Empowering Movement and a winner of the Ashoka/Staples Youth Social Entrepreneurship Competition. This is her talk at TEDxYSE: Unleashing Young Social Entrepreneurs hosted by Ashoka's Youth Venture on November 13th, 2010 in Washington, DC.

Seaon Shin, 19, is the founder of Global Youth Empowering Movement, which links youth together globally to collaborate on service projects for the betterment of humanity. A Korean-American living in Dubai, Seaon discovered that changemaking gave her a sense of belonging and self-purpose. Seaon realized many teens wanted to engage in social change but didn't know how, so she created an online support network for youth to collaborate and learn from each other. She is also working on a local level, organizing a youth center in Dubai to foster community and mobilize youth to learn, investigate, and act on social problems. "Youth have so much potential to do amazing things," she says. "All they need is to be connected together to make a positive impact." Learn more about Seaon's work at http://www.thegyem.org/

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self- organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.

The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
