Broadcast (2009) The final episode reveals how our knowledge of cells has brought us to the brink of one of the most important moments in history. Scientists are close to repeating what has happened only once in four billion years the creation of a new life form. This three part series tells the extraordinary story of the scientific quest to discover the secrets of the cell and of life itself. Every living thing is made of cells, microscopic building blocks of almost unimaginable power and complexity. The cell is the functional basic unit of life. It was discovered by Robert Hooke and is the functional unit of all known living organisms. It is the smallest unit of life that is classified as a living thing, and is often called the building block of life.

In 1835, before the final cell theory was developed, Jan Evangelista Purkyn observed small "granules" while looking at the plant tissue through a microscope. Cell theory, first developed in 1839 by Matthias Schleiden and Theodor Schwann, states that all organisms are composed of one or more cells, that all cells come from preexisting cells, that vital functions of an organism occur within cells, and that all cells contain the hereditary information necessary for regulating functions and for transmitting information to the next generation of cells.

@flexbrat A cancer cell is a human cell, and so it has the same set of receptors on it's surface as every other cell in the patient. It's the control mechanisms for cell division that have gone out of whack. So, the big question is, with all the variations that could give rise to cancer, how do you attack it without damaging healthy cells? It's a question that still is difficult to answer clearly. If you induce apotosis, it could kill the patient.

This is amazing. How will creationists deal with life being created by human beings and not by god? My guess is that they will use that old standby, "It"s a hoax, made up by the evil scientific conspiracy and Satan!!!".
