I used fire bricks for the base(cooking surface) the temperature goes up to nearly 600oC.

I read somehwere that you dont need to use fire bricks, Bricks are fired at 1100 degrees and the oven wont get that hot... im using class A Engineering bricks.... :).. will have to wait and see what happens...

Nice Job.

doh - refractory bricks = firebricks !! although there are still different grades apparently ! Still appreciate knowing where you got yours from !
Also seen some builders try to 'isolate' oven thermally by suspending floor on the steels ! Any thoughts ?

Great job - I know how hard it is........ wonder if you could help with a couple of queries -
- you used fire bricks: how do you think these compare to the commonly recommended refractory bricks ? plus where did you get yours from ?
- why not use firebricks for the oven roof ?
- why a 'barrel' shape not a 'dome' ?
ta - sorry to ask so much, but to do it right first time !!!
-
You need to use angle iron to support the brickwork at the oven opening.
Using bricks with 4 holes, where ?
You need to buy firebricks and re-inforce the concrete base.

It cost less than a grand which when you see small oven's on EBAY for the same money makes it a bargain.
It took less than 40 hours to complete.
Thanks for your comments.
