This 16x20 acrylic was painted Saturday, April 5,
2008 at the Alpine Grove Park in northern
St. Johns County, Florida, amidst intermittent rain
showers. We had to run at the last as a big storm was gathering around us, then dumped. So, the painting was finished in my studio while the image was fresh in my mind. A tree and shrub that was blocking my view of the house was eliminated for compositional reasons, but all else is true to life. The park is a wonderful place to paint and will return there to image several other locations.

  • Gary this was so cool! Five stars!

  • Thanks, it was fun to try to get enough painted before the rain, and to try to time it so I could still pack up and get back to my van before the sky opened up. Fortunately, we could see it approaching across the river behind me (the view in the second Alpine Groves video)... and just did make it to the car.

  • Nicely done Gary!

  • Thanks, was a bit nervous about the rain coming at the time.

    THANKS FOR WATCHING

  • Great job! And with rain chasin' you, too. I always worry about it, m'self. 'It's oil paint, why worry' on the one hand and 'dang! hope this doesn't get under the paint' on the other hand' but, then, if I was doing acrylics or watercolors....well. That's pretty much the end of the day, isn't it?

Keep up the good work! Maybe I'll see y'outside sometime!

  • It must be so satisfying to have such a great gift.Lovely work.

  • I just open the box ... in it goes and zI close the box (LOL)... Thanks for the smile!!!

  • My snow is WET!!! and to boot, I got sunburned... can you imagine, in the shade under trees and a hat and my face looks like a lobster!!! Send some of that cooler weather this way and i'll send some of my warmer weather your way!! Thanks for the wonderful comment... I'm still smiling!!

  • these are "Live Oak" trees draped with spanish moss... still hafta work on my rendition of moss though, could be much better.

I used a WIDE ANGLE attachment on the front of the camera this time. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!!

  • That is BEAUTIFUL! What type of trees are they with that "draped" foliage?

I attach the picture I was doing this weekend. Back to painting my son!!
