a vid i got a few years ago from pincher.net - horrendous quality, but great, rare footage. The guy's name is Alexei Gerulaitis. Supposedly, he won 1st place in this competition held in 1987. true originality & perfection here. Miming like this seems to be almost non-existent nowadays. The track is the famous Yello - 'Oh Yeah' from '87 as well.

  • if u wanna compare just robot miming, then this guy probably has kenichi ebina beat. but i think kenichi wins an overall judging just because his style is more modern, and his dancing is amazing, while gerulaitys just mimes robots

  • well firstly, it doesnt matter who is better. dance is art and should not always be about competition. hopefully you realize that this vid is 20 yrs old, so 'more modern' isnt a fair comparison :) i consider the best dancers the ones who get in the deepest/hardest *zones* not the ones who can do more moves or acrobatics, and Alexi is def in the zone. Kenichi is very good, but where he shines most is in his syncronized sound fx performances which are very creative.

  • but as a mime, he's not on this level, & wouldnt look nearly as good w/out the great sound fx and rehearsing. also, the best performances are usually ones where the dancer doesnt need to prove every dance style or move he knows. you wont know from this vid whether Alexi knows other styles or not. switching to another style changes the groove, & takes you out of the zone. also, he's telling a story thru his dance so switching styles would have ruined the performance.
