My mate now owns this air tractor in coleambally, NSW, AUS. He also owns an AT-401. He comes and does all our aerial work

Cool video. Gotta love those old radial engines. What a sound!

GPS is a neat deal, but it's real easy to catch yourself concentrating too hard on chasing that lightbar, and not enough on whats going on outside!

thats what i assumed was happening. i always was taught to skid gently using rudder to stay on line so as not to streak up the field and end up fighting yourself chasing the light bar. was just curious, thanks.
man he was catching hell holding that AT-301 must been whipped after a day of spraying under these conditions

Your right. Craig was pretty well worn out, bearing in mind he spent over 2 weeks on that particular property spraying out over 26,000 acres.

Why is he having so much trouble staying strait?

Good question! Firstly it was hot & windy.Hot air rises & combined with the wind this made flying difficult.Secondly, every time he reacted to the wind, he tried chasing the GPS which is what he follows to keep in line. Lastly, he used too much aileron & not enough rudder to keep in line with the GPS. Make sense?
cheers, Peter B.

As is pretty common on the Darling Downs of Queensland, a lot of farmers spray out last years (or even before) stubble & the grass & weeds that have grown since the previous harvest.
On that particular day it was very hot (about 36C) allmost too hot to spray. After the roundup (herbecide) killed off the plants (& thereby preserved what moisture was in the ground) the farmer planted sorghum over the top.
