I'm pretty sure they don't crawl inside the container, but rather, they take some of the poison back to the nest and kill others, including the queen. When I first put these on the kitchen counter the ants had no interest in them and went right around them.

I also bought this product and I guess they have to crawl in to it up the little incline and in to the liquid, which then I would guess they would get stuck inside or drown even though it says they bring back the poison to the Queen. Regardless the product is stupid and does not work for me...
