An interview conducted during their Australian tour in 1971, broadcast as part of a segment on GTK**, the ABC's music show of the period. (ABC = Australian Broadcasting Commission, the state broadcaster). The segment also included some live footage and a clip for "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun". (see here on my channel also)

All contemporary members were present for the interview (from left to right): Nick Mason, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, David Gilmour. They speak of their history to date, their means of composition and collaboration, speak of their current album at that time, "Atom Heart Mother", and the upcoming release of their as-yet unnnamed album (which was to be "Meddle").

From a re-broadcast of the segment on Rage, (late-night music programme on ABC) in January 2008. (Wasn't that very good of them!)

** Additional information (thanks MiMaKBaSS):
"G.T.K. (Get To Know), was an oasis in what was the culural desert of rural Australia in the 70's.
Sadly I recently found that many episodes were erased, to reuse 'valuable' video cassette tape..."

One of the most interesting interviews of the Floyd, no doubt. Rick, David and Nick talk even more than Roger, which seems remarkable. I really like the explanation about the subconscious inspiration by Rick. And Nick talking about them being very unsophisticated. They were masters at getting the most out of the equipment. They were masters at experimenting with it, they got to know it so well, they were so fucking original at creating music and at the treatment of sound.

Tension occurs in every part of personal relationships. It's inevitable. And with a great group like this...everything is magnified.Keeping it together until the mates are mature enough to deal with all of the pressures that come with fame & fortune. Although not a fav of mine...you have to hand it to a group like The Stones for hanging in for so long. You can see the tensions in this interview. But listen to the body of work that has been left behind. And the story is not over. What a GREAT band!!

on about 1:05 David is thinking what to answer, and someone from the group (I think it was Mason) whispers - yes - to help David!:D

Dave is so tactful, "It often doesn't work quite that way in the studio." In other words, Roger is a bloody dictator.

they were too young and they weren't almost listening each other. It seems pink floyd was getting popular and they weren's ready at all. I guess Richard was the one who has musical knowledge and experience according to band, because of he was talking too much and cutting the other member's words.

I always thought they had advanced top of the line synths, but they really just used like they said a bass, guitar, organ, and drum set. They may have gotten better equipment later on, but obviously nothing as advanced as modern times. It's incredible how they pulled it off with so little.
