This game is best remembered for its attract mode music thumping through the speakers mounted on the marquee. It's not bad on its own, just not super memorable. With the aid of a trackball controller you try to bump particles into the deadly wall (as they try to do the same to you) as a nuclear reactor core grows larger and larger, threatening to smash you into the wall. Switches on the wall will cool the reactor down for a while. You can also leave a decoy to fool the particles into slamming into the wall themselves. I just found it easier to hug the core (it won't kill you) and bit by bit reach out to bump the particles into the wall. Since I was playing this without a trackball it was tough trying not to fly all over the place.

  • That opening riff is the same one Gottlieb used on it's "Rock" pinball machine when you started the game.

  • @Foxonian Can't say I've played it; never really got into pinball much. But thanks for the trivia!

  • Just a note regarding the description: after completing a certain number of levels the reactor changes it shape into some sort of steamy tornado and can indeed kill you (in fact once that happens I can't beat the levels anymore since it effectively pulls you in).

  • @sikthehedgehog

Thanks for the info! Obviously I didn't get far enough to find that out.

  • As a physicist and 80s video game officianado, this was among my favorite games. It kept me sane during the summer of 1987 when I found it in a hotel. I'd drive 20 miles to that hotel just to play the game.

I didn't really see this more than a couple times in the arcades, that I remember. I did really enjoy the attract mode music though. This probably deserved a sequel or update in some shape or form.

  • This game is MEANT for hippies!!!!!

  • great game - back in the day eh , back when gas was like 1$ lol

  • As elementary kids a friend and I were strolling around Virginia Beach when we happened into an arcade. I walked by some unknown videogame without so much as a second glance (unusual for me as I always sought new games) when all the sudden this MEGA-ROCK-RIFF starts pounding out! I'm looking around the room trying to find the sound system when it dawns on me that this machine is responsible for my inner rock child's elated joy--this song truly is the original 8-bit headbanger anthem!

  • The BEAT is more than awesome, i'm really gonna make something out of this. Actually, the band "the glitch mob" has some music very similar to it. Check out their song "beyond monday", it is really kick ass :D

  • I want an HQ mp3 copy of the Reactor attract mode music
