Blue Whales SDWhaleWatch 9-17-11.wmv

An awesome day! 9-17-11! We saw 7 blue whales, an elephant seal and several huge pods of dolphins! It was one of the most spectacular feeling experiences in my life, and the first time I had seen the blue whales. San Diego Whale Watch, the ship, Privateer, with Captain Chris and Melissa and Wesley and Crew were fantastic as our tour guides on this adventure.
Apparently the whales do not usually come this close and stay for this long. Three whales stayed with our boat circling and playfully turning on their side to get a look at us. We had great energy. It felt magical.

It is amazing that for such a large creature, they are so well camouflaged by the water. We saw several great tail shots and fluke (fin) views. The first two blue whales in the bideo were named by the crew: Captn. Hook and Nubby. They had apparently seen them before and recognized their markings.

The elephant seal is rare to view as well. I love hearing Melissa's voice, saying OMG, an elephant seal?!!! We lucked out!!!! A great day! A wonderful experience.
