Minecraft - Alessio's Canon Tutorial

This is the tutorial for my basic cannon. I know that its a bit bulky and could be refined further but this is the basic design I refer to due to its flexibility and ease of adaption.

would it be possible for me to extend the redstone (with repeaters) to attach the switches to a safer fire zone? It wood be fun to have a sort of launch zone.
