So you can't just go spewing off your ideas of "normal" as if it applies to everybody, since it doesn't. And my ideas of normal did not come from my orientation, I just figured that there isn't just one standard of normal. It's normal for me to be able to walk, for some people, it's not normal if they were born with no legs. Heterosexuality is normal for you, but not for me. So therefore, your state

The point is, what's insulting is different to everyone, and you might as well just stick with the technical terms because there are lots of undefined rules about saying anything else, especially if speaking against the people that you're talking about.

So, in conclusion, it's not easier, it's not any less "safe", it all depends on what precautions you take. "Open Minded" isn't the same as being a slut, some people use that as an excuse, but I'm not. I'm 17, and I'm one of the safest people around. I've never gotten drunk, or high, or had sex in my life. I don't know why I'm telling you this, but I can honestly say that it's so obvious to me how easy it would be to act straight, just so I don't have to deal with people
