The movie was sublime in every way, and I have no complaints. One thing, though. I used to wonder how the Doroks would fit into the movie. Then I found out that the movie came first.
I watch the film as a kid and loved it. It slipped away in memory only to discovered it on tv a few years ago. I then found the manga and it simply blew me away.
I completely agree these aren't for kids. The story is a bit darker and a lot more people die then in the film.
Im glad I watched the film first and then manga, each are fantastic but if you really love the story get these books.
I finished it for the first time roughly a month ago, and now I'm reading it all over again. It's one of the best things I've read. I used to love the movie but now in my mind it can't compare.
Loved the movie since i was 5 back in 86 and it rocked at the time when it was in the butchered Warriors of the Wind cut but then when i was 16 back in 98 when i had an anime club at my city's high school, i borrowed the uncut subbed copy and it showed me what a piece of crap the original US version was. Thank god for a new dub and uncut with subs included, the manga is awesome too.
I have to say Nausicaa to me is the greatest manga ever. The movie is monkey balls compared to the manga. It really does make you think. And the end when you find out it was all created by humans. I recommend the manga to anyone.
Nausicaä was the first Miyazaki film Ive seen, however at the time I was too young to remember. I watched Mononoke and Spirited Away, and realized I had seen the style before, and in no time found Nausicaä again. Most definitely my favorite Miyazaki film, as far as the manga if I can find it Ill give it a read.

I consider this manga along with Watchmen by Alan Moore and the Sandman by Neil Gaiman to be the greatest graphic novels of all time.

Such an amazing manga! I was very happy to watch your review of the manga though, since most don't acknowledge that it came before the movie.
