ABOUT THIS VIDEO

I manage to capture this Lufthansa Airbus A320's second aborted landing and go around before she makes a successful landing on her third attempt. Unfortunately I didn't capture the first go around.

The aircraft was experiencing some very strong crosswinds / wind shear which caused the pilot to err on the side of caution.

An awesome experience for me, but probably not so awesome for the poor passengers on board.

Apparently, if an aircraft has to abort a landing three times they have to go to a different airport. Can anyone please confirm this and shed any further light on the subject by adding a comment. Thanks (",)

  • What tripod are you using?

  • @gt5004life I don't use a tripod.

  • Is this speeded up?

    Great video!

  • @florbor007 No it's normal speed.

  • poor passengers on airplane, no doubt their heart was beating very fast and asking what is happening.

i have a question: should he lift the landing gear each time he manages to go around? what is the reason?

I think if it was a 747 or an A380 or even an A340 he would have landed from the first time

  • @mghaz By lifting the landing gear the aerodynamics are improved. The plane took at least five minutes to return to the final approach after the abort. Most other planes, including Dash-8's landed successfully in between the Lufthansa aborts. I think the Lufthansa one was just unlucky getting caught in quite violent crosswinds on each approach.

  • 0:24 I'd shit me pants

  • Was there a compressor stall at 0:45?? I heard two sounds which sounded like a compressor stall.

  • @mcpcshowcaseHD What kind of camera do you use?

  • jeeze. those pilots could have landed a little bit faster...

  • Its normal to see a go around in these conditions. Its also safe to a specific manufatures designation. For most jest it ranges from 25 to 30 knots crosswind at 45 degrees wind deflection.

The reason, normally, for a diversion after the 3rd attempt is due to fuel capacity or fuel remaning in hours. Most airlines dont carry full fuel load on flights. Its better to divert before you run any risk of fuel starvation. On the other hand if fuel is no factor then try as many times or even wait.

  • Is it normal to land at that speed during these kind of conditions, because it did look like it was going unusually fast.

  • @Pilot86ATPL i guess that after 2 tries they "got used to it" and was not worth deviating after only 2 tries.

  • Buen aterrizaje. Se ve que el piloto es un capo.

  • A landing is a go-around that went the wrong way, that's what my FI says.
