Als je moeder surinaams is en soejatie heet hoeft dat niet puur javaans te zijn. Als je behoort tot de groep Kleurlingen (die nooit worden genoemd) speelt het land van herkomst een minder grote rol. Het is belangrijker voor deze groep mensen om zich te identificeren met suriname. Ik denk dat haar moeder tot deze groep behoort. Je kan n.m. een nederlandse naam, duits, portugees, libanees of aziatische naam hebben maar je bent niet in die cultuur opgegroeid. En behoort ook niet tot die groep.

And judging from her looks I can tell she is definitely from Javanese Surinam descent. I can't believe she doesn't know this herself.

She is obviously not creole and also not of Indian descent which are the other peoples inhabiting Surinam.Surinam used to be a a Dutch colony with African slaves working for the Dutch land owners, but after the abolition of slavery, they needed paid labourers and since Indonesia was also a Dutch colony at the time it was easy and cheap to get ppl from Indonesia.

She says that she doesn't have Indonesian descent but what she doesn't know and a lot of surinam people don;'t know that in the 19th century people from Java, Indonesia ( Dutch-Indies back then) came to surinam, which was also a dutch colony until 1975, to work so a lot of surinam people today not only have African descent but also Javanese, Indonesian descent. That particular group of people is even called "Javaanse Surinamer" which is roughly translated in Javanese surinam person.
