Planks are an efficient and scalable way to train anti-extension, and, as Nick points out, there are multiple ways to progressively increase the challenge. That said, there is little value in holding a plank position for more than 45 seconds; if you can hold a plank for 2-3 minutes, your endurance is excellent, but it is well past time to find a more challenging option in order to continue your progress.
