  • what a load of crap, whats the solution here???

  • @AussieRosie I used to shank it. my swing was over the top a little but the major cause of my shanks was my backswing was to flat or laid off. make sure the butt of the club points along your target line as you take it back. Never outside. If you can get a laser pen and hold it in your grip so it points at your body while at adress then, point it at the ball in your back swing.

  • Not good

  • Gotta agree, that's it; the feeling of starting with your bumcrack towards the target stops the hips spinning out. I've always understood the correct move was to turn your hips around first, which makes it so hard to time the downswing right, but it's more a bump first, the turn. Now I Can hit it!

  • handle forward weight forward will stop you from swinging across the ball. and yea it is that easy

  • The pro I'm having lessons with, (I'm shanking the ball). He says I am coming over the top and is telling me to keep my lower body still, big turn, club head first and aim out to 1o'clock.

So am I paying a lot of money for lessons which are just making me play the worst golf I've ever played and now I'm thinking of giving it away and doing something else.

  • Glad to help!.. By keeping the back facing the target the only thing that CAN MOVE will be the lower body to start down.

    Good luck!

  • Fantastic Advice. Just what I have been looking for. To associate the feeling of keeping my back towards the target as swing feel really helps this problem. Works a treat for me. Thanks Buddy!!

  • He answers the question.

Players who come over the top, do so because at the start of the downswing they start it with the upper body (i.e the shoulders and arms). What you need to do is feel like at the start of the downswing you keep your back facing the target. This "feeling" will force your lower body (i.e hips and knees) to start going left first, then the upper body follows. This will cure the over the top move.
