When I do those, I feel my knees cracking or something, I assume its not normal and i'm pretty sure my form is correct. Any thoughts?

I enjoy doing these and it places less strain on your lower back.

i dont know if u got a response or if its too late but i had the same problem. Try using lighter weights, dont go to your maximum, even with light weights it cracks use no weights, ur body just has to get accustomed to the motion, even if u can lift those weights sorry about english.

What if you use a heavy weighted vest, plus the dumbells, plus wrist weights? My 75 pound vest, plus 20 pounds of wrist weights, plus 85X2 (170 pounds) of DBs equals 265. Oh yeah, and wrist straps too just incase. Not great, but alot better than nothing!

If you have not a "real" power rack, this variation is safe and very productive.

Another one is the squat-lift with the trap bar.

some people like me work out in there house and using a barbell you need a rack to go heavy and those racks cost a lot of cash to buy one so thats why i use dumbbell's.
