China was the first country to recognise Tibet.

The Sino-Tibetan Treaty 821/823 is a treaty of friendship written in both Tibetan and Chinese set out the terms of peace and borders between Tibet and China. It can still be seen on a stone pillar in front of the Jokhang temple in the Barkhor Square in Lhasa (so if you go to Tibet please check it out). It can also bee seen here
