Oops got cut off. Continued from previous entry......4 hours later...with patience & luck, I managed to reinstall the spring and reassemble all the other parts of the button assembly. Good as new!! Thank you for showing enough to help me. --JH

Many thanks for video. I'm a high school teacher who bought an accordion last summer and have been practicing seriously this summer to be able to bring it into the classroom. Well, the D bass button failed in the open position. I really did not know what to do because these instruments are so expensive and one small problem renders them useless. I followed your video and took off the bass cover, found that a tiny spring had popped off, allowing the valve to stick open......4 hours later...w

I don't know how true it is but apparently you shouldn't touch the metal reeds with your hands as it erodes them or something

Those little metal strips on top of the leather are springs that help to return the leather to the flat position so it can seal off the air flow when that reed is not being played. There are 2 reeds for each note. There is a "push" and a "pull" set of reeds for each key.

The yellow strips are actually thin pieces of leather. They seal off the reed when you pull the accordion. Pretty much what those do is it conserves on air. So the yellow strips are not actually the reed because the reed is made of metal.
