Seebeck Coefficient, also called, the thermoelectric effect is the effect due to which a voltage (DV) is induced when a temperature gradient (DT) is applied. (Seebeck Ceefficent = -DV/DT). It is the principle on which the thermocouple works. This video shows a simple experimental apparatus to measure the Seebeck Coefficient of Lithium as a function of temperature. Lithium is a very reactive material and so, the whole experiment is performed in Mineral oil to keep it inert. At the end of the video, one could see the actual Seebeck effect in action- When you apply a gradient, you see a drop in voltage.
