  • either dont use cruise or manually lock it outta 6th gear it will save the tranny what gears you have in that truck

In the past, you could simply turn off O/D. Now "the button" puts the transmission into tow mode. Changes the shift points, but still uses all the gears. It's getting better as the engine/transmission breaks in, but still too sensitive.

  • @2manytoyz123 ya its the same concept as the tourque shift you use all the gears but the point are delayed to get the most power going into the next gear trust me (my dad fried his) hit the minus on the gear shift and only let it have 5 gears not six the 6th gear is too high for towing that much weight all it does is bog the tranny causing heat which will lead to failure which rear end do you have

This transmission doesn't allow manual gear selection, except for gears 1, 2, and 3. Beyond that, D, N, P, R. No + or - selector. Unless the terrain is completely flat, I don't use the cruise control when towing. I won't let the transmission hunt, even if that means no CC. I'm sure Ford would say don't worry about it... FWIW, the transmission does stay cool, towing or not. Obviously not much slipping going on, or the heat would build up.

  • My Dodge Ram does the same thing I found it does better when towing my travel trailer not to use cruise control. I have a 2004 Hemi Ram with 3.92 gears pulling a 26 foot Crossroads Zinger travel trailer that weighs about 7000 pounds

  • What does it do if you use the next gear down? Rev really fast? If it stays under 3500 rpm I would use the next gear down, gear hunting is really hard on the transmission.
