Just over a week ago the Australian music community lost one of it's most dearly loved. At the age of 37, Magic Dirt bassist Dean Turner passed away after a long and private battle with a rare form of tissue cancer.
Over two decades Dean was not only an active muso himself, but also a huge supporter of young local bands. He ran competitions to find support bands in regional areas for Magic Dirt shows, and produced recordings for RedSunBand and Riff Random. Most recently Dean was also managing and producing Brisbane band Violent Soho.
At his core, Dean Turner loved music, and had a real passion for the weird and experimental side of guitar music. So, we thought we'd let the man show you that fervour himself, and dip into the j archives to a great chat Richard Kingsmill had with Dean, and Adalita of Magic Dirt back in 2003. If you missed it, stream The Reel below, and hear Dean telling Kingsmill how important music was to his life.
