jasunto,
It depends. There is no physical difference between the 1st gen and the 2nd gen X factor, but there is a physical difference between the 2.1 edition of the X factor and the 1st gen and the 2nd gen. Weider made a change to the arrangement of the bands where the 60 lb band got moved to the middle as opposed to the end. The thing is, I don't think there are any version 2.1 in stores. But if you were to open the box and notice that the thickest band is in the middle then you would definitely know that it's a 2nd gen X factor. Just make sure you double check that the bolts that hold the pulley assemblies are tight. This mainly just applies to ver 2.1, but doesn't hurt to double check regardless of which X factor you get.

la196,
Unfortunately, the model number is the same. They didn't change the number or anything on the actual box. If there's no restocking fee, then you can just return it if it is a 1st gen. Of course, buying from Weider is the safest choice. Maybe if you order through Walmart site to store, you might get a 2nd gen. If not, then just return it. Or if you do get a 1 gen, call Weider and complain. They might ask you to either send a copy of your receipt or return it to the store. But just tell them, that the store will just end up exchanging it for another bad one. It might be a hassle, but unfortunately Weider is the only way to be sure you get a 2nd gen. Maybe later on in the year all the 1st gen will have been sold and store will only be carrying 2nd gen.

Initially, I called just to see what Weider would say about the pulleys. I was actually expecting some bs answer and that I would just be told that there's nothing they can do about it. When they put me on hold, I was actually thinking that the CS rep was just trying to get rid off me. They didn't explain that they were transferring me the returns department so they could send me out a new one. Not knowing this, I was pretty close just hanging up, but I didn't. My intention was never to call and demand a free replacement unit. And like I said, I was very polite and patience the entire time. I don't know how things would have gone otherwise.

Polentaccio,
You can do those types of moves. If you look at the promo, you can see that they are using only 1 band at a time. They had to go with a lighter resistance because they were going to be shooting the promo over a period of time. But if I were to use 2 or 3 bands, then it becomes a lot more difficult. Power is a very relative term here. What might be a power workout for me, might not be a power workout for you. Unfortunately, I don't know any of my weightlifting stats to give you as a comparison. Obviously, there's more than enough resistance for the smaller muscles in the body than there is for the larger muscles, but there's always ways to work around that. For example, when I do pushups, I tend to over use my triceps. So instead, I'll do a single arm chest fly with the X factor with heavy resistance. I contract my chest muscle in a way that seems most natural. And because I'm using the bands instead of dumbbells or a cable machine, I actually have more resistance when the muscle is fully contracted than with the other methods.

AngeloCusipag,
Yes, I got to keep the old one. But it really does make a lot of noise now that I have the new one. And as you can see from the video, it doesn't have as much resistance. I still have it. It's not even worth giving it to anyone. Actually, to add to what I said before, I took the 60 lb bands from the old one and put those in place of the 15 lb bands of the new one. I didn't realize it would change the increments from 15 lbs to 30 lbs, not to mention the noise was just too loud. Needless to say, I changed it back. Not to mention, I'm keeping the old one just in case I come up with some crazy ideas.

jdfocused,
Again, I don't know all the specifics, but it doesn't hurt to try.

  • can u make a video demonstrating the installation?

    thanx gonzo!

  • I did have plans on making a video on installation and maintenance, but all that got canceled. I think one of the related videos shows a bit of the installation. The installation is rather easy. Problems come up when you try to close the door and there isn't enough clearance. All the problems I've come across could be fixed. Each door is different, so it's tough to say whether you'll run into problems or not and whether you can fix the problem or not.

  • Do it really work?

  • If you use it and eat right.

  • ok, which is better, TRX or this?

  • I haven't tried the TRX, so I can't really give a fair opinion. But I do think the X factor is better. For me it comes down to versatility. There are just so many things you can do with the X factor.

But I think it mainly comes down to the type of workout you're looking to do and which product is going to best allow you to do those workouts.

  • Will the available workouts burn fat as well as tone muscle?

  • Yes, as long as you're overloading your muscles and you're eating right.
